On a recent afternoon, Mark McAllister, co-founder of the Perth-based online marketing company SFI, walked me through the logistics of marketing the city’s largest and most well-known website, SFI.
It’s a task he’s been doing for more than a decade.
The SFI website features photos of Perth landmarks and the city from the perspective of a young woman with a “F” in her signature.
It also has an article called “Wanna know more about Perth?” that links to a number of Perth publications.
It was meant to be a one-stop shop for information about the city, he says, but the website got out of hand.
“There’s a lot of misinformation out there.
I get a lot more emails and messages than I expected.”
McAllisters’ business has been in Perth since the mid-1990s, and it has always been a relatively small operation.
But as the city expanded into the internet era, Sfi grew quickly.
The site now has over a million visitors a month and its members include some of the citys most well known stars, including actress and former Prime Minister Kevin Rudd.
“People have a lot to say about what they see on the internet, and I think the internet has really helped people to be more informed,” McAllings says.

But the business hasn’t always been the same since McAllimmers departure from the site in 2011.
The company has undergone several changes in the past year, including the departure of co-founders and CEO, Paul O’Hara, who left the company to join Facebook.
That change didn’t seem to be having the desired effect on SFI’s online traffic.
As a result, SFAI began to grow its membership base.
McAllsiers, who also co-founded the online video site Rhett and Link, says he has “very high expectations” for the future.
But he admits there are still some things that need to be addressed.
“I still don’t know what the future holds for us,” he says.
But, he adds, “there are a lot less distractions, there are fewer distractions for us, we can be a little more relaxed.”
For now, the Perth city is still a bustling city of more than 1.4 million people, and the internet is certainly part of that.
“It’s great to see that our city is so open-minded, that people are so open to new ideas,” McElroy says.
He also adds that Perth is now a more accessible city to visitors who may not be familiar with the city.
“In the early 2000s, Perth was a very rural city, you had to go to the town square,” he said.
“And that changed a lot when we got into the Internet.
We can go anywhere now, people can get here and it’s just so much easier.”
In addition to the city of Perth, McAllers Perth area office is located in the Perth suburb of Wollongong.
“The biggest thing is, we’re a community, we live in the same town and that gives us a lot.
It gives us the freedom to be the people we are,” he added.
“This is a city that’s changing every day, so we need to adapt and stay relevant.”
